Laptops in the Classroom?

Why do some teachers/professors ban laptops, etc. from their classrooms? This wiki collects comments, responses, and reasoning on this issue.

    My speculation is that the teacher/ professor is afraid that the student is not paying attention.

    I subscribe to Seth Godin's presentation philosophy, "make your presentation interesting enough for people to want to close their laptops."
